Hello. I want to make a 3d alligator cake for my son's birthday. Does anyone know how to do it? I want to make sure that I can do it before I tell him is going to be a 3d alligator icon_redface.gif .

Thanks in advance

I used a 15x11, cut it in half, one half cut the body and the other half carve the head and with the left over cake you can do the legs. http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1774715.html

Good Luck!

Just attack it as any good sculptor would: bake a dense cake then cut away all the parts that don't look like an alligator.... icon_wink.gif

I first drew a template, them used it to cut out the base for the cake. I used two rectangular cakes pieced together. Part of one of them went on top of the other, so I was able to scupt the body taller than the tail. Made the feet and eyeballs with fondant. Made the teeth with gumpaste. Pinched some of the fondant on the tail and made some spikes with extra fondant when I wanted bigger spikes. Brushed it with dust. HTH
