So I posted last night about hating my Tappits and how they kept sticking in the mold. Well thanks to all the wonderful advice I got I decided to try it again tonight and it worked SOOOOOOO well. They came out perfect and it only took me about 10 minutes to write "Happy 30th Birthday Again Megan!" Love them now!

Yep, me too! I had so much trouble with them sticking until I found out how to roll the gumpaste really thin and let it sit for 15 or 20 minutes. Perfect every time!!

Didn't use ANY powdered sugar. Just greased my surface with shortening and let the gumpaste sit for a minute. Worked perfectly!!!

Same here, I thought I wasted money on them, then I figured them out and LOVE them. just wish there were more sizes and fonts available. I use MMF with mine, roll it thin and let sit for an hour or so and they do great!

I think those are the two keys to success. Roll really thin and let sit for a few minutes. I use fondant with a little tylose mixed in and it works perfectly!

I spray mine with non stick spray and dab the excess off with a viva paper towel.

TheBlonde, drakegore (Diane) is the one who helped me with tappits. She uses them on her cookies. Take a look and see what a great job she does with them! thumbs_up.gif

so to make sure I understand, put some vegetable shortening on the surface, roll out the fondant thin (just HOW thin do you mean?), then leave for about sixty seconds before using the tappits?

Yes. I just created a Youtube video last night on how I did it. (First one ever! icon_smile.gif ) There are only about 3 out there on Tappits and I thought it may help someone else that is struggling like I was. Thanks again to everyone's great advice here!

I bought some a few years ago...hated them! Drug them out again last year and now I love them! It's an adjustment and trial/error to get them to work for you....I wasn't rolling my paste thin enough. Once I started doing that and used my cornstarch puff....no more trouble!

Thanks for doing that! I just watched it, and you rolled out the gumpaste WAY thinner than I was expecting. Would this work with fondant, by the way?

I know what you mean about your voice, I always get a shock when I hear myself, I don't sound that way in my head..hehe

I have found that working in a little tylose with some fondant works way better than using just gumpaste. I will NEVER use gumpaste only...I have found tylose is my new best friend.
