Hello all! Yesterday I checked out a supply shop here in Houston and stumbled across a rack fo the Lorann flavorings. Reading through them filled my head with ideas. Here are what I am wondering:
1) How have you incorporated them? Batter? Icing? Filling? Other?
2) How many drops in 3 cups of icing? in 4 cups of batter?
3) What are some of your favorite flavor/cake/icing combinations?
I can't wait to hear!
Cheers!
PS-I passed a 20 bus convoy heading to the Astrodome yesterday. Very sobering sight. I drive by it on the way to work and saw this morning that they had opened the adjacent convention center and turned it into what appeared to be a medical type facility. I heard the Astrodome is already full.
Hi, I am going out today to buy more lorann oils. I bought the watermelon flavor for my 5yr old. Whenever I make pink frosting, then I add a couple of drops of the watermelon flavoring. It's great! I just slowly added drops until I achieved a good flavor. 2 drops to one cup??? I also tried the watermelon flavor on pink mmf. It was a big hit. Everyone agreed that the mmf tasted like pink taffy. Nothing you would want to eat a lot of, but perfect for mmf cutouts or buttercream decorations.
They oils are cheap. I intend to try a few more flavors that dd would like.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE their bavarian cream oil. I add it to every batch of buttercream that I make, even chocolate.
I too would like to try other flavors, but I am so stuck on that one. I will just need to force myself to try something else! I am sure anything I try will be great.
here is a link for you. Try the cheesecake. I bought a big bottle off ebay at a good price and the shipping was cheap

I tried these for the first time last week. I used the Cheesecake flavor in the fondant for a wedding cake. I don't think I used enough, though, because the flavor was undetectable. Next time I'll use more!
I love the variety of flavors. And the price is great! I'm going to have fun experimenting with these in the future.
Hello,
the link I posted yesterday with the list of flavors say 10 eyedroppers drops per pound of everything.
any other questions just ask.
I would go less when using the almond oil. I made a 2lb recipe of buttercream and added 4 drops of the almond oil and I found it to be too strong, but maybe I am just sensitive to the almondy taste. I like almond flavor, but just not too almondy. ![]()
Is the 'almond oil' more concentrated than the flavors? Cause I use 1/2 of the little bottles when using other flavors and it isn't as overpowering....
Thanks!
Leslie
I recently bought quite a few: Banana Cream, Champagne, Cheesecake, Amaretto, Keoke(coffe) and Strawberry. I will get Bavarian next time.
So far, I've tried the banana cream in a banana cake which was pretty tasty. I have added a little bit of cheesecake in a vanilla cake/icing.
As far as Creme Bouquet, I add about 4-6 drops per 3 cups of icing.
2) I don't add any other flavoring when using the lorann oil. It is a very strong flavoring.

Follow up questions...
1) How many cups in a pound of icing?
2) When using Lorann oils, do you also use vanilla or any other flavoring?
Thanks!
One batch of medium consistency icing weighs approximately 1# 8oz and yeilds about 3 cups.
I add Lorann Oils in addition to vanilla extract
I've used bavarian creme in a pound cake. It was wonderful! I used 15 drops. I was lazy & used 2 Duncan Hines Pound cakes instead of homemade. I also used cherry in choc BCI. I used way too much in that one! My family said it took their breath away
My son loves anything cherry & he liked it so I was happy! I made 2 batches on chocBCI & added 15 drops. Way too much. I've got champagne but haven't used it yet. Everyone I've talked to about Loran's oil said champagne is the best.
Just drop a little of the oil in your batter or icing. Mix & then taste. That's all I suggest to do. That's what I do. Everyone's tastebuds are different. I also added the normal amount of vanilla flavoring for my icing then added the oil. ![]()
I just purchased 6 different oils in the small (1 dram) bottles and all 3 of the bakery flavorings in 4 oz. bottles:Creme Bouquet, Island Spice, Princess Cake & Cookie.
I found the best prices on the Lorann Oils website: lorannoils.com . The drams were 1.19 ea. and the 4oz bakery flavors were $3.00 ea. I can find limited small ones here at some shops for $1.69 ea. but I can't find the bakery flavors at all. Also, on the website, many of the oils come in larger bottles (and are much cheaper by the oz.), so if I find out that I have a clear preference I can order those. Shipping was very reasonable and they arrived here in no time. Right now, they have free shipping on orders of $60+.
I'm looking forward to experimenting!
Happy Baking!

I get the oils at my friends cake supply store. I think there under a $1 there.
tcturtleshell,
I have tried the champagne and it tasted like bananas to me. But I don't drink champagne, so I wouldn't know what it was supposed to taste like. LOL
Holly PJ, I didn't like the cheesecake either.
Maybe I just used too much. Are some of them stronger than others? Cause sometimes, I don't add much and it is too strong....then other times, I add more..and it isn't enough. Geesh! However, I went to Lorann's website today and they have a butter icing recipe and it tells you how much you should add in regards to your icing ingredient amounts. I think for a 4 cup sugar batch you add 4 drops.
I like the peanut butter flavor the best of all of them!!!! It is really subtle, and no one has been able to tell it is peanut butter. But I like it cause it is different.
One of my teachers told me that adding vanilla in conjunction with another flavor will kind of even out the flavors. Vanilla is a balancing flavor.
I usually use butter, vanilla and other flavor of choice combination in my icing.
