I'm having trouble when I take my cakes apart to cut. I made my daughter a two tier cake and when I took the top part off so i could cut it it stuck to the bottom tier and pulled some of the cake with it leaving a hole. How can I prevent it from happening again? I use a board covered with foil.

Try using freezer paper (shiny side up) it has more of a slippery surface. Never use foil, it sticks and rips too easy leaving pieces on the cake. You can get freezer paper in the same aisle as foil, wax paper, etc. I use Reynolds brand as it is easy to find in Walmart.

Thank you, I will try that with my next cake.

I sprinkle dessicated coconut or sanding sugar between layers - a thin layer of it - and it stops the plate/cardboard from sticking and leaves the icing intact!
