i need to make a number 1 shaped cake but dont have the shaped tin so will have to carve one, i have a 12" x 10" rectangular tin but cant find any recipes that are that big, does anyone know a recipe for a sponge/madera to fill that size tin?

That size pan should hold one cake mix.
Since you called it a 'tin' I bet you are not in the US and don't use boxed mixes.
Sooooo most any recipe is based on that size. I wouldn't hurt to make a double batch. Fill the tin 2/3rds full and use any leftover batter for cupcakes or a small round (like 4 or 6") cake.
thanx kakeladi, yep im in england so we dont realy do box mixes(would be easier though!) think im just gonna have to have a trial run and see how it goes. thanx for the reply!
