The whole topic is subject to personal preference. Something is only "the best" in one's opinion. I've used Betty Crocker for 30 years because I find DH too "fluffy" for a good sturdy cake. and when I'm flipping 14" cakes, I need firm and sturdy, not light and fluffy.
All cake mixes can be used for cupcakes, so the final choice is just personal preference.
It's funny because I can relate to a previous post on here. I can tell a DH cake a mile away because of the yucky "chemical" taste in it. I don't taste it in BC. But I'm sure it's all because of what I'm used to and my personal preference and not because one is "the best" over the other.
I agree with indy, it is all in the preference. I have the exact opposite feeling, I feel that BC and Pilsbury are chemically, and that DH isn't! I think the answer is, to each his own, experiment!
Selahmycat, I have to agree. I love using Aldi's in the WASC cakes. I think it produces a marvelous product, completely different from the sum of its parts. It does not taste anything like a box mix. And yes, the price is great! As far as the "Big 3", I always used BC or PB. DH just doesn't do it for me, whether in WASC or made as directed.
I've never heard of Aldi...what is it?
I'd never heard of them either so did some checking. Aldi is a discount grocery chain. I came across a gals blog saying she'd just gone to an Aldi's store opening and was pleased to see the dairy prices so low. She said her gallon of milk was only $1.69. Don't know if that would just be an opening special, but if its regular price all the time it'd be great. Not great for me, though, I'm in Canada, no Aldi's here.
The link is to the Aldi website. Theres a store finder you can check to see if theres a store in your area.

Oh, I also read you have to pay for plastic grocery bags so would wise to take your own, or buy the reusable ones Aldi's has. Two bits for the shopping carts too, but you get that back of course.
Those things about Aldi are all true. You bring your own bags or buy them there, and have to pack them yourself. Thay accept only cash or debit...no credit cards. But, I pay .89 for cream cheese, 1.69 a pound for butter, .99 for eggs (dozen), and about .88 for their cake mixes. There are not a lot around...I know of a couple here in NJ, and some in Florida. I am not sure where there are any others, but I may have seen one in Pa. If there is one near you, it is worth checking out. (No, I don't work for them! LOL)

OUCH!
Look at those prices!
I'm paying over $2.00 for about each item! (Live in resort area near the beach)
$1.69 for a gallon of milk? It's amost $4.00 a gallon! ![]()
Aldi's is going to give Wal-Mart a run for their money!
Cakes mixes are about $2.29 per box unless I drive the hour and half to Wally World a.k.a. Wal-Mart. I can purchase them for 99 cents.
Oh well! The price we pay to live at the beach!
