I just decided last night to make a two tier cake last night but I don't have any dowelling rods. Am going to ice the cake the night before and then place the tiers together the morning of the party. I wondered if anyone has done this before. I live in Holland and don't live near a baking shop and have to order everything online and as this is the only thing I need I didn't want to place another order.

Can you use drinking straws or wooden skewers?

you should already have a cake board under your second cake tier...that is good enough, just use at least 4 skewers/straws (depending on the size of both the top and the bottom)
