I did a three layer buttercream with fondant accents for a Fourth of July party. It was really hot, but I made IndyDebi's icing, which I really like. Anyhoo, my DH took some stuff out to the car, including the cake and put it (cringe) on the seat. Yep, the top layer slid off. I told him not to put a cake on a slanted surface in the future, but also told him it failed because it was too hot.
Thank goodness it was for a group of friends who have seen some of my cakes, or I would have died! Never even got a picture of it before - and certainly didn't after! It tasted good though - they ate nearly the whole thing.
Been there with the cake-tastrophe, but it sounds like you have a good attitude about it. Like you said, at least it was for friends who know what your work is really like. And what good friends you have that they were willing to get rid of the evidence for you!
Poor you...what a way to start your 4th! As for photos...yup...doesn't leave the kitchen without photos taken of it! LOL!
So sorry about the disaster...been there myself. It sure is a blow to the old ego, but it was lucky it was for friends. Mine was for a friend as well, and while she was really understanding about the whole thing...I felt like crap. I don't know about everyone else, but my cakes are my CREATIONS...and when something happens like this it is devastating.
Was the cake chilled prior to being set on the seat. A well chilled cake will transport so much better than a soft one. IMHO
Aww sorry about your cake. Its soo frustrating when they dont go to plan. Im a beginner and only had 1 disaster so far but it really puts a dampener on the whole cake decorating spirit
Look at it this way ..... you never have to have your "first" disaster again. now you're experienced!
To paraphrase a quote I like: The worst day of your life only happens once. That's why it's "the WORST".
Dear Ms. IndyDebi,
I want to be like you when I grow up.
Forever yours in Cakin',
CBMom
LOL!!!
Worst days happen...that's why there can be best days FACSlady - good for you for enjoying your day with your friends - you know they enjoyed the cake, back seat "compromised" or not!
