How did she make the dress dummy for this cake? Is it fondant or what?

The picture is in the Showers/Grooms gallery on page 9.
I have made this cake several times, I have it on display in my cake room. I love it. I used a doll pic from wilton, took off the head and the arms. Covered with black fondant,When you add the dress bodise, you will need to have your fondant a bit thicker because the black will show thru!
Thank you all for your input.
Boween: Do you have pics on the web?
Thanks,
Angela
You could also use the people candy mold and mold a chocolate or white chocolate torso. I used a chocolate one on my graduate.

You know ~ if you zoom in on it it looks like everything but the form is buttercream.
Deb
I agree with Deb.. looks more like buttercream to me.
boween - do you have pictures of yours? I almost made one of these for the shower cake for the fair!
Debbie
Her dress on this cake is buttercream I have done it both ways a few weeks ago I did one for a brides table in fondant I will post that, it is really very simple to make, in the buttercream or fondant. I do make the doll part a day before stick in a styrofaom piece to let it dry overnight, makes it easier to handle.
I don't have web page sorry.

I've made a cake similar to that one. What I did was buy a cheap (dollar store) 'Barbie', cut the legs down, cut off the arms and head. I then covered that with black fondant. I used buttercream for the dress.
Here is a picture of mine....

Very pretty TexasSugar! How did you manage to get the buttercream so smooth?

Wow! Would you mind sharing your bc recipe? Even with the Viva method - I can't get mine that smooth!

I use a slightly modified version of the Wilton Class ButterCream icing.
One of the keys to smoothing with Viva, is to make sure that the icing has crusted, but only just. The longer you wait after it crusts the harder it is to ice. If you want too long you will get wrinkles or long cracks instead of the smooth.
If it was me, I'd use a doll pick too and just take off the head and arms, but instead of covering it with fondant I'd paint it with thined royal icing. I did that for a witch for holloween (got the idea from an old wilton yearbood). I would think it would be tough to get seams smoothed out with fondant, but that's just me.
Thanks TexasSugar! I think I was letting mine crust too much before using the Viva then...
Debbie
Thanks to everyone for helping me figure that doll out.
