Any ideas for me? I get very few requests for a yellow cake, and I'm stumped for a REALLY good filling....... Thanks for any help you can give me ...

I did yellow cake few months ago and spent some time searching around for favorite yellow cake combos. I don't have the link anymore, but someone, somewhere did a survey on favorite birthday cake combos.

Yellow cake with chocolate frosting was one of the favorites, because it was apparently the most common type mothers made for their children growing up. (Again, the population matters, because I'm guessing that may not be true of moms today.) So, I'd prefer a whipped chocolate ganache in my yellow cake.

If not chocolate, then just about any filling will complement yellow cake, because it's not a "strong" flavor. Though I don't think of fruit fillings with yellow cake, I think you could do a strawberry or raspberry just fine. Caramel or peanut butter buttercream also would be good.

My favorite filling for a yellow cake is pastry cream.
