I thought you all would get a kick out of this. I made my Orange Cupcake just like I always do but something was wrong because when I went to look at them through the oven windo things were overflowing, there was a cupcake volcano in there! Imagine 6 cupcake pans all like this overflowing all over the oven. I think I know how much I love baking because the whole time this disaster was happening I could not stop laughing. I will rebake the cupcakes tonight and this makes me glad I don't wait until the night before to do my baking!

They look like one of those homemade volcanoes we made in school! You didn't add baking soda and vinegar by accident did you? icon_lol.gif
I agree with the cakeball idea!

This looks just like what happened to my six inch cakes last week! I was baking three, six inch cakes and that is exactly what they looked like. I tried it three times and it happened every time. Still have no idea. It was a scratch yellow cake. If you figure out why your cupcakes did that, let me know!

lol, those are an aweful mess. It may be that the batter was overwhipped, causing lots of air to get in the batter. When this happens, the cake will will rise as the air expands, then when cooled, they will colapse. I actually learned this in cooking class a long time ago.

I'm sorry, I totally laughed out loud at the sight of those poor cupcakes! (Then my coworker made fun of me for being on this site all the time, ha).

Soo many good ideas!! I vote for pouring in ganache, and then topping with just a tiny bit of ice cream. icon_biggrin.gif

My first couple of cakes where looking like this, all of the cakes were missing the middle. I didn't mixed the ingredients in the right order. You have to mix the sugar and butter first. This creates air to make it rise, along with alternating the milk and dry ingredients into the mixture. Hope this helps.

Here's a youtube video with a little more details.

Thanks! That was great.

BTW - maybe a nice aged whiskey to go with that? You can just skip the ice cream, chocolate and fruit.

I really have no idea. I bake after I get out of the day job so I don't think that clearly after midnight I guess. Maybe I put to much of a dry ingredient in? The recipe is a scratch recipe so who knows lol.
