A "nontraditional" wedding reception with heavy appetizers, 4 hours of open bar, and cupcakes. The couple is looking at 300 guests and need to know how many cupcakes they should order. She wants two choices in flavor. Any help that anyone can offer would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Cupcakes are easy to grab seconds, and if there is more than 1 flavor, chances are there will be a lot of guests who want to try the other flavor. Some won't eat any though. If the cupcakes are the only dessert item, I'd say at least 400 cupcakes for 300 guests, maybe even a little more.

At least one per guest. 300 guests = 300 servings.

I would say AT LEAST 400 also. Especially if it is the only dessert. People have a tendency to grab more than one on a self-serve item.

I always tell my brides to figure head count times 125%. So, 400. But I always encourage four flavors.
