Lemon Cake With Buttercream ..good Combo? Other Thoughts?

Hi,
Silly question but I've never had lemon cake before! I am making one as a surprise and was going to cover it in regular buttercream. Is that a typical/good tasting combination? I do not want to do a lemon buttercream as I think that would be overkill.
Any thoughts? I know; this may be a silly question, sorry!
Lemon cake with strawberry filling with white chocolate buttercream frosting!! I call it my strawberry lemonade cake
Thank you all!
I actually made Lemon Curd earlier today but did not care for the taste of it....I'll go on with the lemon cake and regular buttercream.
Ayerim979...what recipe do you use for the raspberry filling? The more I think about it, that is starting to sound very good......
Thanks!!
I like lemon cake with raspberry or blueberry filling and I just use the preserves for it.
I also like lemon curd and lemon buttercream on it, but if you aren't a huge lemon fan that may be a little much. ![]()
I just read on pinkcakebox's website that they do lemon with a chocolate BC! Hmm, not sure that would win me over, but it seems to be popular for them!
I don't love lemon bars because they are too lemony, but I would like a lemon cake with vanilla buttercream for sure.
