Hi! I've been asked to make a wedding cake for a friend's brother's wedding. They don't care if it's topsy turvy but they do like the metallic sheen on the cakes. They want the bottom to be emerald green and the top to be ivory. How do I get the fondant to look metallic? Is this something that has to be airbrushed on? Or is metallic the finish I'm seeing? Thank you so much! (Hope the photo link works...)

Most likely it's airbrushed. By adding some of the appropriate color dust to high proof alcohol or lemon extract, you can spray it on a cake.

There is a company that makes these air brush colors. Nor sure but i think it might be Lucks.

I use the Luck's Brand pearl colors. But since I purchased mine Americolor has some now (and in LOTS of different colors too besides gold, silver, pearl, and pink pearl)

Here are links to www.cakesbysam.com which has two pages of them (one colors-the other gold/silver, etc...)

Thank you for the help. I guess I will send them elsewhere. I'm not ready to invest in an airbrusher right now.

If they are just wanting the "shiny" on the cake , you could steam lightly like Buddy does in Cake Boss, he uses a garment steamer. Not too much or it will melt the fondant, but the steam just melts a little bit in the outside to make like a shiny candylike coating, its really pretty.

You don't necessarily have to invest in an airbrush machine. Cakes by sams also has them in "spray cans"

Here is a link to the pearl

here is a link to their airbrush supplies, as you can see they have other lustre colors in the can also.
