I want to live in NSW, or I'll even settle for Vic. It's better than good old Adelaide, where Planet Cake and Wilton courses don't exist.

*sigh*.

this thread has been really enlightening. I have wondered about availability of things in other countries too.

It looks like we might have to get a cake supply underground going. ... to get you guys the stuff you need inexpensively !! icon_smile.gif It is crazy how much some companies ask for shipping..when I know it doesnt cost that much. sometimes it is even more for the shipping then the item !!

My poor VIVA papertowel deprived friends.. we WILL have to get you guys some plain non-textured towels. I couldnt imagine smoothing a cake without them.

im in nsw but have yet to come across a wilton course... there is one i know of.. but its very far away.. dont know much about planet cake either.. so i guess if you move here.. stick to sydney! lol.

and evoir, i really looked into doing those courses! they looked really really good! only problem is i cant get babysitters during the day.. and im not sure theyd be too impressed with a 14month old tagging along to classes.. hahaha.. he likes to "help" too.. cheeky little monkey,

But i will definantley be making a trip up there.. im in the process of creating a "wish list" from there website so i know how much to bring..

i love newcastle tho; they got everything.. there farmers markets1 ahhh i used to go to them all the time when my car could be trusted.. but scince the "gundagai experience", its just not possible.. haha

Oooh, and if you have the underground going, let me know, shipping kills me all the time, and many shops will let me pay for the itme, but will not ship to China and some won't ship overseas at all

You can get Dream Whip from USA Foods also.

What's paramount crystals? Haven't seen that mentioned anywhere...

I bought the Wilton coursebooks cheaply, and frankly I can't see anything in there I couldn't attempt on my own. Altho maybe I'm not reading it right, haha!

I do know Cupids occasionally run a buttercream course too, but haven't done it.

Okay - so who wants to send me a roll of Viva? LOLOL

LOL, its all about trying the smoooooth buttercream method!

Mrs-A...could you use copha to thin out chocolate? Or does it alter the taste too much? I'll have to look into the crystals, a friend of mine does a lot of chocolates and choc moulding. I'm sure she'll be interested!

Mrs-A are you fricken kidding me. .... $11.00 dollars a PACKET. icon_mad.gif that is outrageous !!! OMG. I pay less than $2.00 a box !! and it has TWO packets in it !!

That is just crazy. I will find out how much the shipping to sydney is and I will buy a few boxes and and ship them to you myself !!! That pricing is just highway robbery !!

@ Jennicita---I too live in Germany(Berlin)- you can get double acting baking powder at asien markets. I use Palmin Soft in place of Crisco. Actually like it better than crisco now. Crisco changed their recipe and it is not as mangeable as it used to be. HOpe this helps! If you have anymore questions feel free to pm me!

im giving my first baking paper smoothing a go this weekend.. im excited.. lol. im also going to go to bunnigs to see if i can try and get a high density foam roller.. anyone used that technique?

Thanks for the info about cream of tartar - I've been asking for some along with Christmas/birthday presents so I'm OK for a while but will eventually run out.

illini89, I never even thought of checking an Asian market for baking powder! Next time I'm in town I'll have to stop by. Thanks! And I have some Palmin Soft in my cabinet at the moment, just haven't really used it much yet since I'm just finishing up my last tub of Crisco. Glad to hear you prefer it - makes me less nervous to give it a proper try!

And as has been said many times, I love this site, I love this thread! icon_smile.gif

there was a thread awhile back where someone asked this question and it never got answered but i had always wondered this too:

even though it's a bit more effort do you think it would be possible to use homemade marshmallows instead of the packet ones to make MMF?

I was just about to say the same thing, you can buy them in many stores using many names icon_lol.gif we can even get marshmallow fluff now aswell.

Is it ok to ship food products into Australia? I thought it would be very expensive to get through customs.

Dream Whip is available at cake supply shops over here in Australia
They don't have it on display as it needs to be refridgerated or frozen. It is usually out the back in there freezers.
About $5.00 per litre plastic bottle - then you get the little sachet of Albumen to add to it -

Beat both together in your mixer for about 8 minutes = Dream Whip.

Very white in colour once whipped -
Gel or powered colours can be added..... whilst beating.
