I want to try brushed embroidery but my question is, can you do it on regular crusting buttercream icing? All the ones I have seen look like they are on MMF. Also can you give me the instructions on "how to" do the technique.

-thanks!

I have two cakes in my album using the brush embroidery technique on crusting buttercream. I just placed a flower cutter onto my frosting and made a light impression. I then piped, using a size 3 plain tip, my colored icing. I took a small artists brush, lightly dampened, and brushed lightly from the ouside of the flower to the insdie. Good luck!

I tried this last night, and it just turned into a mess. I ended up filling in the flowers entirely. Maybe I had the wrong kind of brush. I started with a very stiff one, maybe a little less than an 1/8 inch wide, and that didn't seem to work. Then I tried a soft round brush, pretty small. That just made a mess, too. Maybe this isn't a technique that will work well for me...like makig roses! icon_smile.gif

Any tips?

Are you maybe using a brush that is too wet? I'm sure that with practice, it will turn out beautiful icon_biggrin.gif

Oh....and according to the Wilton site, you use the flat brush for this. I'm going to be trying it for the first time on a cake tomorrow. Up till now, it's been on a practice board.....hehe...hope it works well for me, tooicon_razz.gif
