Well, I may be considered the B but I'm saying nix the confederate hat & magnolias! Magnolias are not in the movie & there are too many other aspects that are more important than the confederate hat. Yeah, I know it was during that period & the "boys" went away to war. But this is NOT a war movie! And if MY GWTW cake showed up w/ a confederate hat on it I'd be pissed.

Now that I may have hats being thrown at me, I'll tell you the highlights for me.(And I've seen it close to 100 times & I'm only 32)

Scarlett & Rhett (if possible Bonnie Blue, even if she died!)

Tara--please don't mispell it icon_smile.gif

Burning of Atlanta (1st scenes filmed)http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/images/reviews/20/1100191972.jpg

Her dresses (she was a socialite)--My favorite was the BBQ dress
http://www.gwtw4ever.com/Color%20BBQ%20Picture.jpg
Her green curtain dress
Her blue & white dress http://img2.imageshack.us/i/gwtwball2009a7.jpg/
Her party dress (surprised that's not mentioned) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2cxvSmlPoaM/SgBCmxx7RrI/AAAAAAAAAcQ/sR8r3CYHTRQ/s400/214914_f260.jpg

I'm surprised no one's suggested the logo in the movie, not the poster. I'll try to find a pic if you want. But it has the "wind" affect to the lettering

People know this http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Qzd9HIsRWeA/SFjBqp5jDSI/AAAAAAAAJWY/Lqgx36zCnRk/s400/Gone+With+the+Wind.jpg

Of course there's Prissy, Mammy, Ashley, & Melanie who are a big part of the movie & she LOVED her Pa.

I would do either a painting or edible image on gumpaste of Tara. Then a small banner of "Gone With the Wind" below that. Maybe trees around the 6" w/ her BBQ dress drapped over the side with the straw hat on top. The drapes for the curtain dress is cute. I would put the tassles between the "joints" of the drapes. Bottom tier could be the burning of Atlanta w/ a silhoutte of Rhett & Scarlett, maybe a couple of guns or cannons if you want to include the war aspect. Either "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" (before that quote Scarlett said "Rhett, if you go where shall I go, what shall I do". ) or "After all, tomorrow is another day". She also said "Fiddle-dee-dee" "As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again. No, nor any of my folk. If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill. As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again." There are a few more quotes that could be put on the bottom tier. I have sooooo many things I would put on & would have a hard time narrowing it down

Seriously though. I'm not trying to be a B. It's my FAVORITE movie & I would want it done right. And I've seen the making of GWTW---awesome & have a few books & have been to the "museum" in Atlanta. I can never get enough of it. And I too will say, "shame on you" for not having seen it (yet, right?) icon_wink.gif

How about the sillouette (sp?) of her in the garden, fist raised, saying the line, "As God as my witness....." (The closing scene before the "intermission"). I would ice the cake (BC or fondant) in red/orange hues to depict the sky, then cut out the silouette in black fondant.

MissyTex, I just reread your post & realized your cat's name is Bonnie. My 14 yr old cocker spaniel's name is Bonnie Blue--according to my 2 yr old her name is Bonbon.

The silhoutte of Scarlett w/ her fist of Tara's soil is a good idea. (You'd need that dishelved look).

Really there's a prewar & post-war theme in GWTW too. So you might do one tier pre & one tier post-war

Hmmm, with all these suggestions I'm afraid Scarlet is going to be sitting on the green drapes waving that stubby ol' carrot with Atlanta burning in the background while Mammy sneaks off with her bar-be-que dress (to match the petticoat Rhett bought) and Melanie punches Ashley in the nose for being such a whimp.
Do watch the movie!

I didn't read all the posts... so forgive me....

A burning building on a cake does not say much of a happy time in a cake. the cake is small, so with Scarlett and Rhett in their tradional pose together.

I live in Tara... (well, its not realy called Tara anymore, in fact the plantation houses are still here.. unfortunantly... it is in the ghetto!)

Scarlett in her green dress and rhett holding her. simple, basic. and yes, magnoloas are around here EVERYWHERE!! but as a southener.. please make it right icon_smile.gif

Good luck icon_smile.gificon_biggrin.gif

I'm southern too & don't get why you would put something on a cake that isn't relative to the movie---magnolias? Yes, they're beautiful flowers & they smell amazing, but they are not in the movie. It's almost like putting a Clingon on a Star Wars cake. Both are futuristic movies so why not. However, the burning of Atlanta is a significant scene. Melanie is having a baby, the city's being looted & burned. They have to get out & do so by the "skin of their teeth". The entire movie isn't happy--her mom, dad, daughter & good friend die, she loses her beloved Tara, everyone in the community thinks she's trying to take another man's wife & her husband leaves her. Yeah, not happy times, but those things make the movie so why leave them out?

I'm sure it's going to be an amazing cake, but if you have time this weekend rent the most amazing movie ever made! (And the pose on the poster really isn't in the movie--it's more risque than the scene where Rhett carries her up the stairs). You can go to youtube & see a few clips if you don't watch the entire movie.

Here's the lettering I was talking about. The only link I could find, but you can click on the other pics to see the rest of the words. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3344/3239888022_c421452b83.jpg%3Fv%3D0&imgrefurl=http://flickr.com/photos/rattlingdjs/3239888022/&usg=__EDHPELsMjeVeA-dCYbwhIsi6ons=&h=375&w=500&sz=97&hl=en&start=54&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=jBL-eVApx__krM:&tbnh=98&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dgwtw%2Bopening%2Bcredits%26start%3D40%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7ACAW_enUS339US340%26ndsp%3D20%26tbs%3Disch:1

This is Bonnie Blue http://vivienleigh.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/gone_with_the_wind-2233.jpg

You could also make Rhett's ascott or hat if you're wanting things to lay around the cake. I couldn't find a pic of him w/ it but this is like it http://www.theatrixcostumehouse.com/rental_gallery/279/lg/Rhett_Butler.jpg

alright you guys, here it is!! I am NOT happy with it, but wasn't sure what else to do...this is the design the customer wanted. I wound up not making the sillhouette on the top in black because it seemed SOOOOO drastic and dark and they wanted a "soft and elegant" look to it.

they wound up ordering a 5" and 7" stacked so they're super tiny lil' things...so there wasn't a LOT of room for much.

I really felt like something was missing (apart from my artistic abilities with painting houses lol it looks so bad).....on the top cake...I wanted to put some draping around the back because it seemed odd but I was afraid it would make it look too "heavy" and chunky on the top.

Anyhow, the lady that picked it up seemed thrilled and was certain the recipient would be as well (keeping my fingers crossed)

The flower wound up looking like a "fantasy; flower" than a magnolia....but I tried!!

thanks for all your input!!

see how the top cake looks odd from the side?? Like the drape doesn't belong...agh it's messing with me.....wonder if they'd think I was crazy if I asked if I could come over with some extra green fondant??? lol

I think you did a fabulous job! As for something missing, a touch of gold braid tiebacks on the curtains. Other than that, this cake definitely says "Gone With the Wind."

Very nicely done! icon_biggrin.gif

I know, I thought about the tassles but my internet was down last night while I was decorating so i didn't have a photo of them and I've never seen the movie. I figured no tassles was better than the wrong tassles lol

I think your painting is great., I really like the one of Scarlett & her Pa. And I think the brown ties in nicely & you're right, black would have been too much. IDon't you hate it when you don't have enough space to do what you want? But it turned out great anyway!
