Great Tasting Candy Colored&flavored Cake -Jello Or Soda
Baking By sadsmile Updated 9 Feb 2010 , 8:47pm by Ronbob1984
I need to make a lemon, orange, strawberry, lime and grape cake. What is going to give the best flavor... Jello or flavored soda?
I am thinking that grape soda will be better for grape. I have tried the grape loranne oil and it reminded us of nasty yucky children's grape medicine.
What do you guys think for the others? Lemon is easy. Orange needs to be a bright orange candy flavor but not strong like the oil and the same with the lime.
So would soda with a little added color be the best thing or is jello really the way to go?
Thanks guys!
I just purchased a bunch of the unsweetend drink mix powders. They are colored and have a great flavor. You don't need to add the sugar. I also use them to flavor buttercreams. I will also use the sugar-free water bottle sized drink mixes in buttercreams. They lemonade is to die for!
Haha Mike it's for kids. I didn't think of koolaid. Does the ascorbic acid mess with the cake... taste, crumb, firmness?
I have never had any problem. I do usually do a buttermilk cake recipe, so the added acid probably doesn't make much difference.
Unfortunately, no. I haven't taken any as they are usually cupcakes and just for fun. I need to start tho.
do they come out bright like macsmom's rainbow cake?

The brighter colors(blue, purple) do. The lemon and lemon-lime are lighter. A drop or two of food coloring will add to the zing.
I always make my strawberry cakes with strawberry Jello in them, so I would think you could use any flavor.
