HELP! Please!! I am doing my first MMF "ordered" cake and have some questions.... I am covering Rice Krispies with black fondant. How far in advance can I make and cover it?? And, how do you roll out the fondant without getting the cornstarch all over it? Thanks for the help. I am new to all this!!

Since this is not the "edible" part of the cake you can make it weeks in advance and it would be ok. Fondant dries very hard. Keep the dust off of it and do not store it airtight. I do not roll out my fondant on cornstarch or powdered sugar but on a light coating of crisco shortening instead. This means you end up with a soft shine to the MMF instead the powder you have to try to brush off. Once I learned how to do this I never went back to the powder method. Good luck!

Thank you for the help. I just made the fondant and rolled it out with the Crisco and not cornstarch. It worked really well. Can't wait to actually get the cake done to see how it turns out! Thanks again! icon_smile.gif
