i like the 2nd one because of the design...*but* there is something about the proportions that i'm not digging. i think the top tier should be smaller??

I was going to say one, but two is something I've not seen before and I am curious to see it finished! So... Number Two!

I really love #2. I think the design is really original. I love cherries, too, so that appealed to me.

I really like #2. It's not a common design. My only suggestion would be to make the middle tier larger than the top or bottom. Cannot wait to see what you come up with. Great drawings by the way.

o.k. please don't get mad. I like both cakes, but i don't like either one of them for a cake contest. Those are ones rhay everyone does. I think these need to be over the top.
sorry....i do really like both designs though

Okay... I took a second look, and I want to amend my vote. When I posted before, I don't think I'd seen #2 properly (i had scrolled my iphone picture such that I wasn't seeing the bottom tier, and that made the proportions look all weird).

So, #2, definitely. And I like soccermom's suggestion of making the center tier larger than the top or the bottom.

Good luck, and when you do it, please put a link to the pictures in this thread so that we'll all get notified when you post them.

Wow, I can't believe the response this has gotten. Thank you all so much!

I still haven't decided, but I'm leaning towards #1. I am curious about how the sequins would turn out though... Maybe I could figure out a way to work them into the first design?

julzs71, don't be silly! I'm not mad. My "main" entry, a 2.5 feet tall mermaid-style wedding dress cake, is already underway. This one is more of an excuse to make a cake that I otherwise wouldn't get to make and work on the techniques.
