I am new to making fondant and/or gum paste figures and wanted to know how long they can sit on a cake covered in butter cream. I am not sure if the butter cream will cause the figures to get soft or not. Also, can you decorate a fondant covered cake with butter cream (e.g., butter cream border)? Thanks!

This cake is buttercream on fondant on top and the bottom border and it was around for a couple of days before eaten and it was fine for the whole time. As you will see there is quite a large amount of buttercream on top.
