All I can suggest is that you use an extruder to get a small round snake and that you make one little loop. Then create a top that the bottom of the pin can fit in. Then glue it together with some vanilla. I would definitely use 100% gumpaste or fondant with tylose.
Definitely check out the construction of the pin. I think that would help you. You could leave it open, or leave it shut.
