where can i get long wooden dowels in australia (preferably sydney) to go through a multi tier cake?

also, i have seen american youtube videos where the supporting dowels are punctured through cake boards that appear to be thin corrogated cardboard. i haven't seen these thin boards in aus - i've only seen silver/gold cardboard ones that are quite thick still (about 3mm thick). they are quite tough and i wonder if these are used in multi tier cakes - does a sharpened dowel pierce through effectively?
