I need suggestions for a 50th birthday cake for my boss. I have a bunch of "You know you're old when..." sayings that I'd like to incorporate. Any ideas?

There is a cake in the 'Over the Hill' birthday cake gallery that has a spin dial thingy that points to sutff like older than dirt, older than the hills, etc.

Maybe you could adapt something like that to go with your 'you know you are old when..' theme.

What about a "Wheel of fortune" type deal with You know your old when... and the answers in each of the money places.

Thanks for all your great ideas. I've decided to try to make a square cake covered in fondant that looks like a shipping box with "Over the Hill Survivor Kit" written on the side. The top flaps will be open with mini marshmallows for packing peanuts and have things like a tv guide, remote control, beer can, hearing aid, vitamins, etc. made of fondant. I'll print the "You know your old when..." lines on paper and glue them around the cake board then cover with clear contact paper.

Does anyone have a suggestion for how to do the flaps so they stand up a little without visable support or ideas for what other items to put in the box?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks Tanya. The bottom of the box is 2 11"x11" cakes covered with buttercream. Everything else is fondant. The base of the lid is styrofoam and the beer cans are floral foam. The fondant tissue is attached to a cardboard square so I was able to remove the top sections and was left with the square cake. I decorated the top of the cake too so it still looked nice without the top and the fondant decorations kept the buttercream from getting on the bottom side of the top section. I was really happy how it turned out and my boss loved it. icon_biggrin.gif
