Green light to what? My cakes already start at $5/serving.
Jaime, Oprah had Marina Sousa, the Cake Girls, and Duff on to create a cake with no rules. Basically, they got the first 15 minutes of the show. They each got to say something, explain their cake, and then the audience voted on the best cake. Guess who won? ![]()
Marina's cake was freaking gorgeous. Mary and Brenda did an amazing cake too. Theirs was a mosaic with 5000 fondant circles, amongst a million other details. Poor James Roselle didn't get any face time like Geoff did, though (about 5 seconds for Geoff ~ LOL).
Interesting...nothing technical was shown, just some serious eye candy.
Marina's cakes simply amazing! On the note of prices, just looking through her site she does offer sheet cakes... Sheet cakes are available to supplement larger parties and are priced at $4.50 per serving. See cake is cake regardless of shape and it costs! But you only get that great deal after your $600.00 minimum cake order as a supplement
Glad to see this featured on Oprah!! Watching it now on my DVR.

Beam it on over to me cakes!
LOL!! I wish I could. I am so glad that I read this thread because I wasnt going to watch this episode. The cake segment isnt written on the episode description on the DVR.
All of the cakes are nice, but I think my favorite was Marina's cake.
My Oprah had reality tv stars on from Project Runway and American Idol... did I miss it???
It's the same episode. It's in the beginning of the show.
So I have to tell you about this, because I thought it was hilarious!
I was home sick yesterday and I was dreaming about Duff and other cake people being on Oprah (I'm serious...I was dreaming this) but was upset because I didn't get a picture of Duff! I was running around the audience trying to get pictures, but was sooo upset I couldn't get any of Duff.
Then I woke up, and saw what was on TV: Oprah, with Duff, Marina, etc. I started laughing and my DH (who had just gotten home) asked what was so funny. ![]()
Later that night, I dreamed one of our cats got out of the house and we couldn't find him. Thank goodness THAT wasn't real.
I LOVED Marina's! The fact she didn't win should bring a lot of comfort to other cakers who enter contests and walk away without the blue ribbon even though they do amazing cakes.
I felt bad for Duff, he so didn't focus on "oprah" with his design. He looked out of place. Come on, you're going on the O show, it has to be all about her. "Hello"!!!
Yeah, globalgatherings, I agree. I LOVE Duff, but what was he thinking? His cake was amazing, just not for this show. Should've been about Oprah. No Doubt! ![]()
Here is the link to see the full episode.
Enjoy.

Oprah brought the idea of "custom cakes" to millions of people. Those are the top designers, and now even if people don't have cable, they know who they are and what they do. So now there is no reason to charge anythiing less than $5 because "mainstream" people now know what a real custom cake is...and it's not walmart.
