how do you stencil on a fondant cake? i tried once by using royal icing, the when i pulled off the stencil, the royal icing smeared, not pretty. any suggestions?

I ended up using a stencil but instead of smearing it across like it shows in the video, I actually painted the RI in with a paintbrush. I just didn't want to risk smudging the black RI on the white fondant. It came out pretty well, especially for a first-timer (I think!).
