Cake balls are quite simple - they are the cut off cake mixed with either bit of filling (buttercream) or you can mix it with bit of preserves (jam) and splash of alcohol. This makes a "batter" you can roll in balls, dip in chocolate and either eat yourself or serve icon_smile.gif

I have two cakes decorated with cake balls in my gallery.

Simplest explanation:
Mix cake crumbs with icing to make consistency of playdough. Roll this mixture into balls. I use a small cookie scoop to be consistent with the size. Chill the balls until firm, then dip in chocolate. Yum. This is how I use up cake scraps and my friends and family love them.
