I need to make a 3D firetruck cake and I got some great instructions froma fellow cc poster but I was wondering whats the best medium to use for the ladder? I've seen great ones on here made out of royal icing, colorflow, and gumpaste? I would love to hear suggestions! Im scared of it breaking during delivery or handling! Please help... Thanks!

For my firetruck cake I used bamboo skewers and covered them with fondate/gumpaste mix. I rolled the fondant/gumpaste mix into a long rope, then inserted the skewer into the rope, and continued to smooth the rope on the skewer. Used water mixed with meringue powder to attach all the parts together. Hope that helps.

I've never done one but plan on it for a friends grooms cake next year, and have researched a little. What I have read most is modeling chocolate or Pretzel sticks covered with white chocolate. HTH.
