Wild things are great to look at but not eat. Anything that eats meat is a potential health threat and deer/elk/etc., are known to carry the prions that cause CreutzfeldtJakob disease, especially in the upper Midwest. We have possums that like to eat the cat food and the trash and hiss at us just before we kill them... They're pests around here too...

I just wanted to add, a opossum will attack if it feels cornered, so will a raccoon. And it looks as if this picture was taken during the day, if thats the case, you need to be very careful. Cause anytime you see a nocturnal creature out during the day, you need to steer clear, as you could very well be looking at a rabid animal. My brother right now is going through the rabies shots cause a raccoon latched on to his foot while he was working on his car, It is not a fun thing for anyone to have to go through.

After hay driving truck all day, my husband brings home is emply lunch pail and asked me to look inside....knowing him, I opened is carefully and there were three little opossums hissing back at me. They were only a few days old but old enough to know I was a threat. We had raised a baby jack rabbit a while back so we tried to feed the little guys.....Oh no....they wanted nothing to do with that...

There are several rescue centers in our area and found one that raised opossums...they took them and called me back a few months later, they were grown and set free.....

This is so true! I live in South Carolina and I think possums are THE most disgusting thing in the world. They are like a giant rat. They will eat all of the dead rotting things on the side of roads. I even see them fighting vultures. We have some around here as big as dogs (20-35lbs) no lie! It was one outside 3 days ago, and needless to say I haven't been outside after 8PM in the past few days. I'm so scared of them that the other night it was dark when I pulled up, and the possum thought triggered, and I went and stayed at someone else's house icon_redface.gif Sad I know!

Raccoons are only bad when they are rabied. If you watch them, they actually wash their hands before they eat (seen it with my own eyes) cute! But if you see possums in the day, they are usually rabied because they should be asleep so that they can terrorize me at night icon_cry.gif

Down here, people love the "festives" (lol@ jojo) coons, possums, deer off road, squirrels, armadillos, turtles walking from ponds, bull frogs, the WHOLE pig. Poor little animals don't have a chance...... I'm sure you "city slickers" don't know what hash and souse meat is....just the thought makes me not eat at other's house...SERIOUSLY!

We get possums in our yard sometimes.
One night, the dogs were really, REALLY barking, enough to cause alarm, and my husband went to see what was up. There was a little baby possum in the yard! (or so he thought). The next morning we went to check on it, and it was actually a little gray kitten, lol. We kept him and named him Possum.

I have 3 dogs. One night while they were outside I kept hearing their barking. Went outside to investigate. There was a baby possom turned over on its back, not moving...I thought "great, where in the world do I dispose of a dead baby possom!" I took a stick and touched it...didn't move. Took the dogs inside. Came back out to see about removing it--it was gone!!!! He played possom with me!!!!!
