I have someone who wants chocolate frosting but doesn't want a simple vanilla, chocolate or marble cake. What cake flavors could I suggest that would pair good with chocolate frosting?

Raspberry's are in season now or maybe a nice light lemon/orange flavor. HTH

Yes, lemon or orange cake is good. Raspberry too.
French Vanilla. WASC recipe used with any of the above.
Even banana cake OR caramel.
