How do you make the lid look like it's open on a present cake?

I havent done one of these yet..but have read that using a simple basketweaved icing covered cakeboard as a lid...that propping it up with toothpicks or dowel rods will work! Hope this helps!

If you want the "lid" to be cake you could also use a layer of cake on the cake board and prop it up with dowels. Fill in the opening with flowers or fondant tissue paper. (I haven't made one yet either)
