I am doing a groom's cake and I need a Sheriff's badge. I was wondering how I could tint fondant gold? Has anyone done this before? All the help would be great. Thanks. icon_biggrin.gif

My advice would be to colour your fondant with Americolor gold colouring first, then paint the badge with gold lustre dust mixed with clear alcohol. I've done this with items that were to be gold and silver (there is a medal in my photos where I coloured the fondant grey first), and it works much better than trying to paint on white fondant. Hope that helps a bit!

I agree with bonjovibabe. I always colour the paste first too. There is a Bold Gold dust which gives a really bright finish or else dust with gold powder and brush over it with Confectioner Glaze. That gives a really good shine too. thumbs_up.gif

I agree with the others. Gold highlighter dust will give the most realistic metallic look.

Thanks for all the help, but I don't have ameriacolor and I don't have any where to get it. Is there anything else I can use? I have the dust. How much alcohol do you use to mix with the dust? Could I use a golden yellow to get the color? Please help again. Thanks. icon_biggrin.gif

Wilton has a golden yellow that would work.

If you just have the dust, that will work great too. I made a gold leaf just using the dust and it turned out great, I have never tinted the fondant first.
