I am just curious about these. I know they aren't as good as SPS, but are they more stable than just cardboard and wooden dowel rods?

Ha! I know you don't Leah's!! I really want SPS, I just don't have to time get it in time for a cake this weekend. I have always done wooden dowels, but this is my first wedding, and I want something more stable to ease my worries...LOL!!

So after this cake I am just going to bite the bullet and get SPS, BUT since I don't have time to get it for this weekend, are the wilton ones better than just cardboard and wooden dowels?

Yes, the hidden pillars are much better then wooden dowels. At least they fit into the plate. Not tightly, but they fit. Dowels don't attach to anything. That's their problem. A dowel that goes a couple of degrees off vertical gives little to no support.
