I'm looking for ideas for a Rent themed cake for a 21 year old girl's birthday. The cake doesn't have to be big because it's just for family. I know she wants chocolate cake and either regular or chocolate buttercream, so I'm good to go there. My problem is coming up with something beyond the Rent stencil letters for the cake design.
Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Oh, my gosh, that took place in my old neighborhood, where the church I attended is!

Waxing nostalgically, I would do a 3-D replica of Tompkins Square Park.

In your case, I would stack 3 - 8X3 squares (or smaller, but still squares), dowels in between, big dowel down center, and make it look like a NYC apartment building from that neighborhood (think tenement).

and i right of way think of the song "Season of Love"

lyrics @ http://www.anysonglyrics.com/lyrics/r/RENT/Seasons-Of-Love-Lyrics.htm

lots of images in it.

could work in idea of a ruler or measuring tape...the coffee cup, the sunset, etc.

but then ...

focus in on measuring it in love (hearts, etc)

LOL! The Vonage song gets me that way. My grand-niece used to toot that thing all the time, until it stuck itself in a corner of our minds.
