Push in pillars look so much easier for tiered wedding cakes but the parts that go into the cake are so skinny... they still provide good support?

I could use the pillars that have the hidden pipe but knowing my luck I'll cut one of the hidden pipes too short, etc.

Anyone use push in pillars without any additional support and have good experiences with them? I have nightmares that one of the pillars just slide out side-ways and the top tiers come crumbling over....
