Dowel B4 Or After Fondant??

This might seem like a BIG "you should know this question" but, Do you put the dowels in before or after putting on the fondant???
Sorry again for the beginner dumb question I havent done many all fondant cakes yet!

I am fairly new to fondant. I covered each layer, then doweled, then stacked, then put a center large dowel thru top to bottom.

Dowel after applying fondant for two reasons...

1. You don't want the next cake to squish your fondant
and
2. It's a heck of a lot easier for the person serving to remove the dowels
