Meringue b'creams taste like eating a stick of butter 
Not my cup of tea.
'Regular" b'cream is sweet and can be flavored in different ways to harmonize with the cake flavor. Many people think it is too sweet.......but that is what it is suppose to be - a sweet topping to sweet dessert - cake!
Meringue's aren't everyone's cup of tea but then again neither is regular buttercream. Meringue I find to have a lighter and not as sweet texture. It's not very hard to make. Here's the video I watched before I tried making SMBC for the first time. My family loved it btw. Hope that helps.
