Weight Loss Help...with The Chunky Monkeys!
Lounge By TexasSugar Updated 28 Oct 2011 , 1:50pm by TexasSugar
Tracy---do you have any idea how inspring you are??? I've had a pretty crappy week weight wise...I weighed, I think Thursday and didn't lose a single pound all week!!! I was so disappointed in myself. And I really don't understand???
I was good all week with my eating. And I really let myself down. I know I'm worn out emotionally and physically from work. Today was my 21st day with no days off and none insight till after the 4th.
But after coming here I do feel somewhat better...tomorrow is a new week and I will just start it with a new attitude and keep chugging along.
{{{Hugs to ya'll}}}
KylKat,
I'm sorry you had a rough week. I can't imagine how stressed and exhausted you are if you haven't had a day off in three weeks!!
Try to remember that the scale doesn't always tell the true story of how our bodies are changing. I know you know this. But I also know that when you've worked really hard and you don't get that negative number on the scale it is SO depressing. Stay strong and focused. Our ultimate goal is to be healthy, so if you made healthy choices last week you won! Next week's weigh in could be a record weight loss.
Have you ever watched The Red Green show? It's a riot, he would close one of the segments with this - 'I'm pullin' for ya. Remember, we're all in this together'. That's exactly how I feel!
Melissa
Kly, you are forgetting the positives here. You ate good and you didn't gain! ![]()
I'm nearing my 'cycle' so I know that my weight in the next two weeks may be up or not change much at all. Have you eaten alot of salt this week? Have you been drinking enough water? Too much salt and or not enough water can both cause us to hold on to water, and thus affecting our weight. Stress and being tired can also wreck havoc on our bodies as well. Are you eating enough calories?
So while you were eating well, there are other things that do factor in. I doesn't mean you failed this week at all. And again, don't forget, you didn't gain anything.
I really like having this place to come too. Even when I have to report in and say I didn't walk again (like today) I know that ya'll will still be here to support me and help push me to better habits.
This week I am going to work hard to eat breakfast and walk. I've got to get on the ball. My trip is getting closer and closer and I really want to feel better in the current clothes in my closet. ![]()
I had an AWESOME week! Yay! I guess keeping the food journal is working out for me so far. I exercised for 6 out of 7 days last week and ate really well except for the occasional cookie (just 1 at a time instead of 1/2 a bag though!! lol!! ) My weight is done 6 lbs from last Monday and my inches are down 3.5 (the sum of 10 body part measurements) over the past 3 weeks! I wore a size 11 skirt on Saturday, I don't ever remember wearing a size 11 but I bought it at a thrift store for $2 as something to aim for!!!!
KlyKat, I can only imagine how tired you must be with no days off! I echo Tracy though in that you haven't gained and that is great!! ![]()
Tracy, I wish you a wonderful week! Keep on trying, and retrying if that is what it takes! We can all do this... ![]()
Congrats to everyone on their successes!!! And for those who aren't feeling happy with their current status, just hang in there!
I'm officially down to 139!! I almost had a set back on Friday evening when I went to Target to grab a pair of crop pants really quick. I grabbed a 7 and a 9, and both fit the exact same (even though the inside tags said different sizes). There weren't any 11s on the rack, so I was a bit dismayed.
But I realized, who cares what the darned tags say? I mean, if they fit the exact same way, there was an issue with the tag, not my rear. ![]()
Keep at it ladies!!!!
Congrats Kay!!There is nothing like success to really motivate you!
I've already been in the pool this morning. Going in around 6:30 works so well for me. I need to get something else in today, maybe the stairs and some weights. But I am so tired. Not a good nights sleep, so I just feel drained. I think I'll go have some water and rest for a while. I just feel so exhausted.
I hope that everyone has a great, healthy day!
Melissa
Hi Ladies...
Tracy, I think you are right on about me not getting enough calories. Between that and the stress of what all's been going on I think is most of my problem. I weighed this morning and still the same. No lose BUT no gain either. So yes, that is good.
As far as water intake and salt intake...I don't drink as much water as I should but I do drink alot of green tea. I don't carbonated drinks or sugary drinks except sweet tea. And hardly eat any salt...I'm a pepper or Louisiana Hot Sauce girl.
Kay---way to go on your lose. I know you feel on top of the world!!!
Thank you all for your uplifting words of encouragement. It has really made me feel better!!!

Kay, congrats on those 6lbs! That is awesome!
Woo hoo, Melissa on the swiming! I am so not a morning person, so I think it is great that you are able to get up and get that out of the way first thing.
Jade I'd be happy as a lark shopping in the 7/9 range. I wouldn't care what that tag says either as long as they fit you how you needed them to fit.
Kly, hang in their girl! Do you have a day off in sight at all? I'm glad you are feeling better today.
I lost a pound.
Next week may be a different story since I'm already in to that crazy once a month physically, emotionally draining period. On the joys of being a woman. *rolls eyes*
Today was one of those days! I had to get up early this morning to do something and of course couldn't go to sleep last night, then I work up way earlier than I needed. So I started my day off with not enough sleep and two yorkies barking at everything!
I'm puppy sitting my parents' dogs. And they and my dog were going to the groomers today. So while my dog was out of the house I decided I'd take my cat next door to my dad's office to hang out while I set off some flea bombs.
I had taken a cage over there and put him in it. He was not a happy guy and we ended up having to move him out of the office and in to the shop area so he wouldn't annoy the crap out of them with the pissed meows. I went back over to my house to cover things up and get it ready for the flea bombs. About 5 mins later my brother came to tell me the cat got out of the cage. Apparently he figured out the bottom of the cage wasn't attached.
Now the shop area he was in is twice as long as an average house and there are all kinds of equipment and tools and junk in there and I have a black cat who was hiding. I didn't think we'd find him at all. We did follow the meowing (thankfully he was talkative) and figured out about where he was. My nephew finally figured out a way to get to him, though he got some scratches in the progress (he still has his front claws). They ended up locking him in their supply closet at that point.
For a while there all I could think was my cat is going to get lost or run away. The shop has large bay doors and people are coming in and out so I really didn't want to leave him out there for too long uncaged. He is an in door cat and if he ever got out I'm just not sure he would come home. I've had him for a year now, so I'm kinda attached to him.
I was really thinking he wasn't going to be happy with me after today. When I went into the supply closet to check on him this afternoon he came out of hiding behind boxes in the corner and rubbed against my legs. I'm not sure if it was a you are forgiven move or a please take me home now.
He is now settled back home with my dog. So I'm glad that is all over with.
I went to Walmart to day and stocked up on fruit and some salad stuff. Me and my nephew had a veggie lunch today, portabella mushrooms stuffed with spinach, corn cakes and mac and cheese. The corn cakes were a recipe out of the WW magazine. I wasn't overly impressed with them, but they weren't bad either. I had cooking issues and think I had the burning up too high because a few were gummy in the middle, even though they were almost burnt on the outside.
I know the mac and cheese isn't healthy, but I have been craving it so I decided to make some. I did only cook two servings of pasta and instead of using butter and flour mixed with the milk I used corn starch. It was still thick and creamy and had less calories and fat than the butter would have added. I split the mac and cheese into two smaller bowls and only ate a 1/4th of it. In the past I would have eaten at least half and would have finished the rest at dinner. But the rest is still in there and I'm staying away from it!
Dinner tonight was a chicken salad sandwich and some potato chips. I used half of a breast (saved the other half for another meal) and added lots of grapes and green onions to it. Then I mixed in some plain low fat yogurt and a touch of mayo to offset the yogurt wang.
Over all not bad, though breakfast was a cheese stick. I had planned to eat after I got the cat settled in next door but since that took me longer to do it totally through me off schedule. At that point it was after 10 and I just wanted to get to the store so I could get lunch going.
Tomorrow is another day, and hopefully I'll get breakfast in before lunch time. ![]()
I came across this at Food Network today and I thought I would share it. I know my portions are off, and figured others have the same issues as well. http://www.foodnetwork.com/healthy-eating/10-ways-to-measure-perfect-portion-sizes/pictures/index.html
Hello Everyone!
TexasSugar - Thank goodness your cat is ok. They're rotten little things aren't they!? I have a very spoiled cat sitting in my lap right now! Every once in a while my chihuahua gets out the front door and we get to spend the next 10 to 30 minutes chasing her. I'm sure we look ridiculous! We live very close to a couple of very busy roads, I would be devastated if anything happened to my little Lucy.
Congrats on losing a pound!Good job! Don't worry about next week, even if the scale doesn't reflect what you're hoping for I know that the next week will. That's what usually happens to me. And good job on the mac and cheese - you satisfied your craving without losing control!
Thanks for the link for the portion sizes. I definetly need that! I wrote it down in my food journal.
KylKat - How are you feeling? Do you have any time off soon? Good job on not gaining any weight. That is something to be proud of. I'm finding that I need to drink alot of water. I can really tell a difference if I don't get enough. Mainly on the scale. I LOVE hot sauce, but I'm a Frank's fan. I had part of a chicken breast with some last night in my salad. I also like it on pizza, I bet it would really be good on a burger. How about scrambled eggs? I know what I'm having for breakfast!
So, I finally hit the 5 pound mark!! On day 22 I'm down 5 lbs. I'm thrilled. I try not to think about the fact that I used to be able to do that in one week!! I know they say that your metabolism slows down as you get older, but it's almost like somebody flipped a switch! I need to up my exercise. I want to reach the 10 pound mark by July 17th. I'm thinking about getting a wii. I know alot of people use those. I think it would be good for my whole family. Especially Callie and I (my 9 yr old). Callie's spending alot of time in the pool. I know that's so much better for her than sitting in front of the tv! Any ides on how to help show her that her body is getting stronger and healthier? I don't want it to be all about the scale. I don't want her to get all tied up in the numbers.
Ok, I'm off to scramble an egg and get the hot sauce!! Hoping everyone has a great, healthy day!
Melissa
Hey everyone. Sounds like everyone is doing very well. That's GREAT! Hey, got a question for ya. Does anyone know if you can purchase iced tea in a bottle (12 or 16 ounce) that is not sweetened with anything? I'm really trying hard to stop the diet sodas and the artificial sweeteners. I'm doing much better with the unsweet tea but I'm having trouble finding it in bottles that I can carry with me on our trip. Maybe they don't sell any without sweeteners of some sort? I'm also looking for flavored water but it looks like everything has the artificial sweeteners in those as well. If anyone has purchased or seen any waters or teas without sugar or artificial sweeteners, please let me know..... Thanks guys..... Have a wonderful day!!!!!!!
My dog will be go out with me when I water the flowers and he will hang out on my porch while I do it with out having to be leashed. Only time I worry about him running off is if someone it outside next door (I don't have a lot of neighbors). The cat has been held outside for only a few minutes but never let out. We have 'dumpster' cats next door so I've always been afraid he'd run off with them.
He was very loving last night, so all is forgiven. Thankfully.
Yesterday I realized I was very emotional, especially after lunch when I started adding up calories. It wasn't that I ate anything horrible, or a lot of it. It was just that the calories in the meat, gravy and stupid potatoes really added up. Then last night after a lower calorie dinner I kept feeling hungry. I realized that my 'cycle' was early, which played a lot into the whole emotional thing and just craving everything. But it didn't make it easier. I just tried to make sure all the extra food that I ate were fruit or product snack food like popcorn.
Missed breakfast again today. UGH!! Had stir fry for lunch, but I made sure I had a lot of veggies and a little meat. Also had fruit salad with a yogurt dressing on the side.
Mellisa we have a Wii and the Wii fit board. It was okay for exercise, but with the Wii fit board there was so many breaks between everything that your heart rate doesn't stay up too long. I'm not sure about the newest Wii game they have been advertising. I do like the Wii for kids over other gaming systems cause it does get the kids up and moving, but I've always watched my nephew sit there and do alot of the games as well. But if you do a game night and get the family all doing it it can be fun. ![]()
I wouldn't worry about trying to prove to your daughter she is getting fitter and stronger. Hopefully the physical activities she is doing will help her, and she'll probably notice in her clothing at some point. But if you have to be careful because along with wanting to show her the positives of it, there is always the opposite side that she will figure out as well.
We want to teach our kids healthy habits, but at the same time, we don't want them to think about it as much as we do. We want it to be more natural. I don't want my kids (if I ever have them) to have to count calories. I want them to learn what is correct portion sizes so that they just naturally do that.
Margie, I'm not sure I have ever seen anything with out the splenda or other sweetners. Maybe you can try a health food store??
Melissa---great job on losing your 5 pounds. I know it feels great!!! I love hot sauce on lots of stuff...I never eat pizza without it or Subway or eggs or chicken or hamburgers...get the point haha...
Tracy---I would freak if one of my cats got loose. I have 4 inside cats, 3 of which have NEVER been out. So I know how ya feel.
Margie---I will look around our store at the different teas and see what's out there for ya.
My eating habits have been pretty bad the past few days. It's not that I'm eating bad stuff just not eating enough during the day. We are having a pretty heathly dinner tonight. Grilled chicken, grilled veggies, grilled corn and green beans...yummy!!!
Today is day 24 and still no time off. I'm looking ahead to next Wednesday for that well needed day off.

Hey everyone!
I hope that eeryone is doing great. I'm having a rough time - really wanting to eat. I see all this good stuff and I just want it. But I'm also pretty stressed, I get so tired of worrying about money.
I haven't gained any, so I'm happy about that. I know I'm not getting the exercise that I should. I'm still swimming every morning, but I need to get my heart rate up. Maybe I'll work on that tonight. I think I'm having tortellini for dinner. Or maybe a salad with light Ranch. Or maybe a little of both! Or maybe I'll go to the store and get me a giant Hershey's with almonds!!!!!
Is anyone else dreading the 4th? We'll be going over to my in-laws for a cook out. I know I can watch my portions and still enjoy the food. But I'm just worried that in my state of mind I'll over indulge.
KylKat - I don't know how you're doing it. I'm hoping that Wednesday comes really quick for you.
Melissa
Melissa---I guess I've just accepted the fact that right now I have to do, what I have to do. Things will work out eventually.
I feel the issues you are having with wanting to eat. I did really well my first two weeks but this week I have been the same as you. Wanting to eat everything in sight. I have warded off some of my cravings but have gave in a little here and there. I missed my weigh in this morning because I had to take my boyfriend to Jackson for a doctors appt. He has a trigger finger and had to have an injection in it...Boy was that an adventure!!! The big wennie hates needles and passed out. Then back in Yazzo City my daughter is in the doctors office for a severe UTI and a kidney stone...ugh!!! Soooo....
Tomorrow is the day before the 4th and Rebecca's possibly going to be out again...we have a ton of orders not to mention the ones that will come in tomorrow.
Okay so anyway, Melissa sometimes you just have to give in alittle or you will most certainly over-indulge at some point. Stay strong chicky...you can do it!!!
We are doing hot dogs, chips and dip and desserts for the family gathering for the 4th. I've decided that I'm going to make some cole slaw (non mayo kind) and some corn and black been salad to take. My idea is that if I take those, I won't cover my plate in chips and I can eat one hot dog and those and be okay. Normally I'd take at least 3 desserts, but I'm going to limit myself to only making two and hoping we don't have a lot of left overs.
The 4th is just a day, one day. It is okay to give yourself reprieve and enjoy the day for what it is, time to be around family and friends and not to stress over calories. If we eat too much, then we do, and we just get back on track the next day. One day, one holiday did not make us fat.
If you can take something, then take yourself an healthy side dish or salad. That way you know there is at least one thing there that falls in the healthy side. If you are prone to mindless eating, aren't most of us, then don't hang out around the food. Get your plate, then find a place to sit that doesn't put you right there in front of the food where you end up grazing (I do this all the time with appetizers). You can also always eat a healthy snack before you go, so you won't be super hungry when you sit down time to eat.
The whole eating thing must be going around this week cause I am doing it too. Of course I know why I am, though it doesn't make it any easier. I've been in a down mood most of the day but so far have stayed away from the kitchen for the most part. I just have to get through the next few hours then it is bed time. ![]()
Happy 4th everyone!!
I have two great motivators to help me make good choices today - I have a very bad tooth so eating will be very difficult. And I lost a pound!! My weight had stayed the same for three days, I was glad that I hadn't gained any and I knew that a loss was coming. I'm very glad that it was today! That helps me behave better than anything. But I think my tooth will have more of an influence than anything!! My mouth isn't really hurting right now, but I'm afraid to eat anything. I was in alot of pain last night and I don't want that to happen again. So I'm thinking liquid diet today! Maybe I'll just take this as a fasting day and spend some extra time in prayer!!
I am so thrilled about my loss, that puts me down 6 pounds!! I'm at 206 1/2. I would love to get below 200 while my hubby is at youth camp - they leave on the 13th and get home on the 17th. But that only give my 2 weeks, not enough time. I guess a more realistic goal to to hit that 10 pound mark. That's more in line with what I've been doing. I've got to get more exercise in, didn't I say that yesterday!? The pool is great but I've got to find a cardio that I'll do. Although I was doing swimming races with Callie yesterday and that really got my heart going!
What are y'alls plans for today? We'll be at my in-laws. All of my dh's family will be there - he's one of 7 kids. So the house will be packed. I love his family but I prefer to stay home so it gets stressful for me. At least when I'm over there I don't eat - I don't like to eat in front of people, and I really don't like to overindulge, it's like being on a first date - 'no, I'm not very hungry. That piece of lettuce filled me up.' I'm such a weirdo!!
I hope that everyone has a great day and stays safe. Enjoy the food you eat, watch your portions, don't deprive yourself and remember that it's just one day!
Melissa
Hey everyone. Happy 4th of July to all.
Melissa - I've had the same problem with a tooth aching me. Not sure what's going on. I go to the dentist every 6 months and nothing has been detected. But somethings happening. I've got an appointment the end of the month so we'll see. Anyway, tooth ache or not, it hasn't stopped me from eating
I was doing so well for a while until one day I got really hungry and I've been hungry ever since. Seriously, I don't seem to stay full for more than an hour or so and I'm hungry again. CRAZY!! I've gone the fiber route and still don't stay full for very long..... I hope it passes soon or I'm gonna end up back to where I started....... If it's one thing I CANNOT do, is go to bed hungry.......
Klykat - thanks for checking on the tea for me. I looked around again a couple of days ago and just can't find any unsweetened tea in cans or bottles. I'm really thinking it's all sweetened with either regular sugar or substitute sugar....
OK, everyone, have a wonderful day. Have fun and stay safe......
Butternut - I'm so sorry about your tooth. I hope they can find some reason for your pain. I was able to eat some breakfast, unfortunately it was peanut butter mousse!!!
I was making brownies with the mousse topping. I just had to lick the spoon, and then I cleaned out the bowl! I probably got about a 1/4 cup. It was SO yummy. Then I had a piece of bread (45 cals) with a little butter on it. I didn't try to eat at the in-laws. But I had a small salad when I got home. I'll probably have another for dinner. I really want a baked tater. But that would mean a trip to the store. I'm not sure I want one that bad. Ok, yeah, I do!
I did 20 laps in the pool, 100 scissor kicks and 20 of those backward push ups - the ones where you use a chair.
I hope that everyone has a great night!
Melissa
I almost forgot to share one of the best things that happened today - it turns out that my MIL has a gazelle, knock off, and she's not using it. So...guess who now has a gazelle in their house!?! ME!! I am so excited. I've been wanting to try one, but I didn't want to spend the money to buy one and then find out that we would never use it.
I think I'm going to like it. I did 10 minutes on it a little while ago. It wasn't too bad at all. But I can see where 15 - 20 mins would be a nice workout. And I think it will be something fun, easy and good for Callie to use. And the rest of the kids, too. I think I'm definetly going to get a wii soon. I think it would be good for everyone. So I'll be looking for recommendations for fun, active games.
I just tried the Dannon watermelon flavor yogurt, it's pretty good. Only 80 calories. Should I be eating yogurt at 10:40p.m.?
Melissa
Sorry for the tooth ache gals! Those always suck!!
Margie, we have all had the eating thing this week. Wonder what is up with that. My finally reduced back down and before yesterday I was doing better.
Of course yesterday was... well a break from the eating well. I didn't eat horrible, could have eaten alot worse than I did, but could have been alot better. Oh well. It is what it is. I had an enjoyable Forth minus a headache from hell most of the evening.
I'm getting back on track today, so all is good. ![]()
