I've entered my first competition (it's at the end of August) and I just got my cake dummies in the mail yesterday. I have sizes 6", 8", 10", 12" & 14" all in rounds. I was thinking of doing something like a 8", 12", 6", 10" then 14"... anyone have pictures of cakes they've done like this? I need ideas!!! Also, would you cover the bottom of the one that will be exposed (the 12") with fondant or buttercream? I'm hoping to use fondant but we'll see. TIA!

Personally, I would decide to do all tiers fondant or all buttercream. I have never done a cake with a small tier in the middle but I have seen some. If you're going to do that, you might need to put a dowel thru all the rounds to make sure that it doesn't tip over and break. Good luck on your competition!
