there is an impression mat that makes the quilted look. i tried it by hand with a ruler once and you have to be a mathematical genius to get it right that way. i got one online for like 4 or 5 bucks.

I have the impression mat but you could do it if you have a diamond cookie cutter (just a lot more work)

Lot's of good ideas here. Not a fan of the impression mat.
