Is white cake also called anything else. I don't think I have ever seen white cake here in Australia. Could somebody tell me what it would be called in Australia. I want to try some of the recipes found on Cc but don't know what white cake is.
Thanks
Barbara

White cake from scratch is made without egg yolks, which is why it is white rather than yellow. To be honest, it's more of an ivory colour because of the butter (or you could use shortening or oil), but definitely different to yellow cake. I have a good recipe if you'd like it - just pm me icon_smile.gif

The box cake mixes that we have here in Australia are usually butter, vanilla and choc. Will check the ingredient listed on the back of the box as bonjovibabe said that white cake is not made with egg yolks.

Barbara, sounds like Vanilla is going to be as close as you get..... we also have a vanilla, but our "white" is MORE white than the vanilla.... made only with egg whites instead of whole eggs...
