Does anyone have any ideas on how to or what to use to make the top part of a milk carton cake? It's the area of the carton that you open. I am making an 8" square milk carton shaped cake for a school banquet.
Thanks in advance for all ideas and suggestions.

candy clay or gumpaste/fondant could be used to make it opened looking ...

If you made a template from a some cardstock...folding it to make sure it's the right size and marking fold and glue lines. Unfold, cut your clay or gumpaste...marking it for fold and glue lines...fold cardstock template and secure with tape(may want to consider adding a waxed paper liner dusted with cornstarch to prevent sticking....fold and glue the clay or gumpaste piece...set inside template. Allow to harden checking the piece to make sure it isn't sticking by slightly and carefully lifting piece and placing it back into position....Allow to harden overnight at least. Remove from 'mold' and allow to cure overnight.

I've not done the above procedure. That is just how I would first go about it if I were to attempt it.
