I just showed my gumpaste roses to my BF, who said that unless I had told them they were roses, he wouldn't have known. This is my first attempt at GP roses, and I've been working all week on them. I have 40 total to make for my Course 3 final cake tomorrow, and half of totally finished.
Should I remake all of my flowers, or does my BF a lesson in what flowers are?????
Thanks.

Maybe you need a new BF. Those are great roses and there is no reason for him to insult you to the point where you doubt your skills. I would say maybe try making the petals a little thinner around the edges (don't make the entire petal thin or it will be difficult to work with). Does he always do that?

Thanks everyone! You all made me feel so much better!
BBmom, I agree, I think I deserve a dozen roses after his comment.
I just asked him to look at them again, and he clarified his statement. They don't look like "real" roses - they look like "cake" flowers. Now, he's asking if I want him to make me breakfast - I think he knows he's in the doghouse.
The reason they aren't as thin as could be might be that they are fondant with gumtex, not gumpaste?
Anyways, thank you all so much.

They look great and if he can't handle you being good at something, tell him to hit the road! lol Just kidding....

They are GREAT! I have to work on mine for Course 3 too this week - UGH So far I can't get the hang of it and all I get are tight rosebuds. Oh well....

Did you slap him .................. hard?
I would have........................ twice
Back to the Roses - they are gorgeous.
Feel very proud of them - truely, they are just so pretty and every one here can see that you put your heart into making each and every one of them.
Now back to *him* - honestly - have you slapped him, yet?
Breakfast -
Settle for nothing less than Dinner at a suitable venue - with suitable food and very suitable wine....
Anyone whose first attempt turns out that lovely deserves nothing less.
Bluehue.

Tell him he can make you some pancakes at Perkins!

they perfectly fine-and yes to the breakfast silly boy!! if you want help with more realistic ones you should check out edna on youtube-she's AMAZING and goes through stepbystep!! it really helped me-he should take you out to dinner a movie with a dozen roses too (duh they are going on a cake what else would they look like hehe)

they are good...but if you want some constructive criticism, I think you've made the bases too bottom heavy for such a tight rose. If you're doing a full-blown rose, then you want a heavier bottom, but for the half-open Wilton fondant rose, keep that bottom slim.
Thinner petals would also help - you can always work the top edge of the petal to thin it a bit more before furling it.
That said, BF is an idiot...*lol*

Ok no offense but maybe BF doesn't know what flower is what. They are beautiful. I think you have done a great job.

Your roses look great.
Tell your BF he can bring you some REAL roses to make it up to you. lol

They look great..........most men don't know one flower from another, but the smart ones atleast know enough to say wow they are gorgeous LOL....that would be my husband.....of course we been married over 36 years so he has had practice......they are very nice

I love you all so much!
So, the cake is done. I'll post pictures once my camera battery charges -it died on me while I was taking pics of everyone else's cakes at class! I didn't get to put them down the sides, since I made a styro cake, they wouldn't stay. So, they're just on top of each tier instead.
Thanks for the support.
