I was thinking of making an open bible cake similar to ones seen here on CC in a few weeks. It will have a grouping of flowers on one side of the cake. Do you think it will look funny to use both gumpaste and royal flowers together? OR should i go all one or the other?

I think it's best to go with one, or the other. They generally look so different that they just don't go well together. I've not really seen them mixed together very successfully for my tastes.

Just my honest .02

I kind of like combining different textures and mediums on cakes-- I don't work with royal...but often do buttercream and fondant flowers on the same cake....so that some are flat and some are "3-D", and it looks nice. I don't think there's a right or wrong. You can just judge as you go.

Thanks to both of your for your opinions. ;0) I guess i will have to decide soon, as i have to make the flowers ahead of time to give 'em time to try. Decisions, decisions, decisions. ;0)
