I want to put colored sugar on my RI cookies. How do I do that? And at which point can it be done?

Thanks so much.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Generally right after you put the RI on the cookies, you'd sprinkle your sanding sugar on it. Slowly count to 5 and shake off the excess.

I agree with cinderspritzer. Make sure you don't put the royal icing on too thick, or the sugar will kind of "push" the icing over the sides of the cookie. Sprinkle the sugar on while the icing is still a little wet so it will adhere to it. Good luck and have fun making your cookies!

I've also painted on a little bit of piping gel over the places that I want to cover with the sanding sugar and then sprinkled it on. That works well for cookies with lots of colors or only some sections that you want to cover with the sugars.
