I have to choose icon_lol.gif ? I have to go with Mary and Brenda. They are consistent in their ability to come up with something interesting, technically difficult and beautiful. Plus, I love the fact that they are traditional artists and are able to pull "fine" art into their designs. The cake paintings last night were just amazing, and I can't wait to see what else they create!

Team Cakegirls all the way!!! thumbs_up.gif

About the voting...........Yeah I agree the *outloud* vote was uncomfortabe, it really put them all in a tough position.

I agree with txcupcake, I love Mary and Brenda and hope they are "The Last Cake Standing" team!

Didja notice how much good juju they edited in for Kerry to say to Courtney. Dang straight! Trying to make up for that cluster eff they did to her in the last cake challenge where the crumb coat got dinged somehow & they landed it in Courtney's lap via editing Kerry's words.

I was so Glad they did that. Great save, well maybe not great but a save nonetheless.
Perhaps there is someone with a small brain and a teeny tiny heart at FN afterall--can't be very big though.

Anyhow--I love Michelle's work, Mary's work, Bronwen's, James's, Elisa's, Courtney's all of 'em--I cannot pit them against each other. I'm just glad I am neither a judge nor a competitor.

That said--Courtney's rocked my world--I loved the color, the big splash, the eclectic bombastic wonderfulness of it.

I mean James has won challenges doing Ron ben-esque cakes--why not put that in his life story--it's his life story for crying out loud.

It sucked major big ones for them to sucker punch each contestant by starting early and jerking them around like that. "Psych!!" FN is brilliant at the cluster f--they've got it down to a science.

I love Elisa's--easiest sculpture? a life size dress form??? Totally rocked.

Honestly, as hyped as our beloved Michelle gets it was probably nothing but the grace of God that she did such a classic design. If she had gotten tossed and shoved into a freak out sculpture she mighta od'd on misdirected adrenaline.

But again that cluster eff of FN to have her own cake buddies toss her at the end verbally--such incredible poor taste cannot be fathomed. Sure it's a competition, sure someobody's gonna loose--five somebodies--but dignity is one of FN's most secret ingredients yes?

As sweet and talented as I think Michelle is I think her's was the least to bring out her life's story.......beautiful cake YES!, well done? YES! Predictable of her style of work? Yes! and therein lies her dismissal.
Heartwrenching!
It will be interesting to see this thru to the end.

I really don't want to have to pick just one, as I love each one of them for different reasons, BUT I will say I think the final 2 are going to be Bronwen and Mary. But they will probably be taking it down to a final 3 for the last challenge, so Bronwen, Mary & Elisa

As for my critiques of each cake:

Bronwen's told her story the best

Mary's was the most artistic

James' was very technically perfect

Michelle's failed to tell a "story". It was definitely "her" but there was no story there (which breaks my heart cause she is one of my FAVS)

Coutrney's was cute and whimsical, but I fail to see her life story in it. It was cool just HOW precarious those cakes were, but I'm tired of topsy-turvies. sorry, that's just the way it is for me.

Elisa's was amazing.. seriously amazing. I did think that the fondant ruffles made the skirt look bulky and as a result made the dressform look "hippy", but who doesn't have hips, right?

The show was really good. However, the vote-off was in poor taste. I think the producers should have thought a little harder about that one. A secret ballot would have been much more appropriate.

That's the thing - I think they did think about that one. lol With each challenge, they seem to be going more and more for drama like the other reality shows. Even if they have to make it up themselves. But even with other reality show vote-offs, the only one I can think of (that I've seen) that has a public vote is The Biggest Loser. The others at least do it in private. I would hate to go first!

What I don't like about it is that it introduces the option to vote someone off based on them being a "threat". I'd rather they stick to who does best with each theme and their techniques and not "who can I beat?" Not that I think that's why Michelle went, I think she deserved to based on the criteria.

It seems heartless and cringeful to us because we just want to see them compete and decorate. FN is trying to make some drama-filled reality tv show and I wish they'd stop.

Next thing you know, viewers will be calling in to vote.

I truly hated the face-to-face elimination vote! For heaven's sake, they were ALL crying!

How demoralizing! How horrible! It was so cruel to do that.
All for the sake of drama! drama! drama!

But, that being said, someone did need to go. And as much as I hate it that one did need to go , and as much as I do love her work (she is SO creative and driven to perfection!) I agree that Michelle's cake did not tell her "story" and this time she was the right one to go.

It will be just as horrible next week when another one goes, but at least the way it is done won't be quite so shocking. I hope.

Unless they do it differently next time...a firing squad maybe? icon_confused.gif

I don't care who wins...they are ALL fabulous, in different ways. And who doesn't want $50,000?

OH NO! I meant to watch but got busy and forgot all about it. I hope I can catch one of the reruns. I love these challenges and to see how they can pull everything together in the last few minutes. This must have been a good one. Will it air every Sunday night? It is on the FN right? My favorite channel when I am not on CC. Wonder why I can't seem to get caught up around this house. icon_smile.gif

I like the less literal so I enjoyed Courtney and Mary's cakes.

Michelle's cake had a lot of heart in it even if she had to "tell" her story.

Not to disrespect Bronwen, but her's was my least favorite. But her piping is incredible.

I don't understand the "bulky" skirt issue for Elisa's cake, because who's to say the cake isn't of someone who's "hippy"? icon_rolleyes.gif Why should it be sleek and slender necessarily if the cake's female form is well executed? Just a thought...

James is always good, and I do love his flowers...

Thought I'd post these in all 3 threads in case someone hasn't seen it icon_smile.gif

Hey did you all see what the next episodes are going to be about?

Last Cake Standing: Elopment Cakes
Part 2 of 4. The Five remaining competitors take a field trip to City Hall where they meet a couple who is getting married that very morning. Not only will the competitors stand as witnesses at the ceremony, they must create a wedding cake for the newlywed's reception party that night.

The FN website does not show the synopsis for eposide 3 or 4 so I found these on tv guide online:

Last Cake Standing: Extreme Superhero Cakes
Part 3 of 4. The four remaining competitors are paired up to create cakes based on original superheroes, and they must incorporate extreme elements, such as mechanics and fireworks. The losing team will compete in a sudden-death cake-off to secure a spot in the finals.

Last Cake Standing: Sweet 16 Sextuplets
Conclusion. The three finalists have 24 hours to make 5-foot-tall birthday cakes for a set of sextuplets who are turning 16. Then the winner of the $50,000 grand prize is announced.

*******************************************

For those who haven't seen the first one (there still doing re-runs) Here's the synopsis from FN's website:
Part 1 of 4:
In this first competition, it begins with six pastry chefs who think they have eight hours to showcase their skill and prove why they are the best of the best. Their task is to tell one story of their life in cake.
