do you have any pictures to work off? if i think shopping bad standing, it makes me think of a basic shape (square or rectangle) carved to be smaller at the top.

Why don't you bake 2x9" cakes or even a sheet cake and cut it in half...frost together and cover with fondant...
I did one for my daughter, photo in my pictures "shopping bag" but I laid
it flat and used BC and fondant, then put tissue paper in the top of the bag.

oh, put a cake board every few layers with dowels for suppot as well.
