ACatsmum, will give the birdcage another soon as a practise run this time using some cards, had to be better I think.
Hi Frenchiejo welcome to the thread. I'm pretty new to cake decorating myself only been doing it a little over a year. I have all the free classes off craftsy and a couple I have recently bought they're great I especially like the Jessica Harris one I bought to learn the upside down method from.
Very glad to see your beautiful flower made it in one piece
Quick question...do any of you use Wedding Cake designer pro software? I purchased this today just cant help myself
AHello Jo from Sheffield !! I'm new too to this page and learning lots and so happy I had courage to post too, can feel a bit intimidating at first but everyone on here is so lovely and helpful! Be warned though it's very addictive!
I had the craftsy app on my old iPhone and this week changed to Samsung now can't find it - boo :-(
Yes Nanny I agree I hope Maisie is OK? ?
Bashini think I will stick with youtube for a while it's such an amazing invention!!
Please everything worked out for you Mel today :-)

I guess its what your comfortable doing isn't it? I do prefer thicker sp but wondered what everyone else did
Sugarluva, which tutorial did you what today? Was it the same as I watched ?
I can't seem to figure out how to post a link to the vid I watched but she covered a tall, ganached cake with bright yellow fondant? Is that the one you watched? She has a few Vids out and they seek good. She's very thorough and really takes her time doing things but they look great by the end.
Was just thinking the same about maisie too. Hope she's just off enjoying the bank holiday and nothing else.
Welcome Jo. Everyone on here is amazing you'll learn so much - just be prepared to try and keep up with the chatter haha
ANo Sugarluva it wasnt that one, I watched a few, one with very layer of buttercream an a very SP, almost see through, she started from the very top edge and kept pulling the SP and gently kept going took ages, then the other one was where she rolled exactly the amount just cover the cake but she too stretched and pulled the sp out, I can see sometimes why I get air trapped in there, everyone does it so differently.
Good morning everyone!
Welcome Frenchiejo! You'll love this thread :)
Nanny and sugarluva, I just copy the url (the address of the website eg, www.youtube.com/blah blah blah) then paste it into this reply box. Sorry if that seems obvious to any of you but just in case you weren't sure I thought I'd tell you.
I'm pretty glad barrel cakes aren't that popular here yet. I can imagine how difficult it would be compared to a normal cake.
Did you know there are loads of tutorials for making flowers without needing the specific flower cutters? I mean you still need cutters- normally round or leaf/tear shaped cutters, but you don't need the peony cutter for making a peony rose. I think it's brilliant for someone like me who just needs practice first. Just google 'tutorial gumpaste rose without cutters' eg and you'll get a few.
AThanks Jean, I am very dull and still not sure, dd coming up for tea so will ask her, although I think she thinks I'm a complete nut sometimes!!
AYou go to the gym?????????? You fit type person you!
OK, I'm going on my exercise bike, put a lb on for goodness sake.
Morning cakey friends! Blimey - what a lot of stuff to catch up on!! Welcome Frenchiejo - I briefly read your post and all I can say is YouTube everything. I found a good site for all beginner things and more - All things cake Utah. If you Google that site it should have something to help you if it's a new skill you are looking for. There are loads of others on there including Mich Turner and Tracey's Cakes and some really good unknowns too. I found out how to do the upside down frosting with YouTube - I learn much better when I see how it's done.
Hope you are all well and enjoyed the weekend - I have been house hunting (well just starting really) but my husband is not too keen on my wanting two kitchens! He said it's not necessary! Am thinking that I might even get to squeeze a cake room out of this eventually....well if two kitchens is a bit much - then I might be able to have a room just for me!
Kathy
Tiddy - you are probably right - but I shall go down fighting!!! I am suffering from cake room envy - simple as.

Thanks Jean. I can do it on the pc but can't figure it out on my phone. There's probably a way in just not looking in the right place.
Ooh Kathy two kitchens would be amazing! I love baking but hate cooking whereas my boyfriend is an amazing cook so we're constantly fighting over the kitchen haha. Plus it's tiny hence the reason all my cake stuff is stored in the spare room. A cake room would be amazing too though!
Ok I shall assume that it is a swear word then and nobody uses it
I do have a cake room and am just in the throes of getting it all straight before env health come and see me! Maybe I shall post a pic when its done
AGood morning all!!:-)
Barbara, two of your cakes are in favourites!! Well done!!:)
Tiddy, looking forward to seeing the cake room. Mine is still full of boxes. I bought a storage unit from ikea and waiting for it to come today then I can get started on clearing things.
Maisie, hope everything is ok with you. Please just pop in for a minute and say Hi so that we know all ok!!! :-)

Whaaatttt!! Hold on to that one! My man can do english breakfast and bacon butty, neither of which I care for. No matter how many times I tell him, he can't remember how to make pancakes.
Tiddylicius, I don't have the software. How are you finding it? Is it good? Is it the kind of software that helps tell you whether you're making enough or not?
Nanny, I've been to the gym twice in two weeks. Not exactly getting my motivation back that's for sure. Before that, I hadn't been since december

Haha if it wasn't for him being able to cook I think I would literally live off sandwiches! I have dreams of a cafe/catering venture in the future. He caters all of our family gatherings, cooks Christmas dinner for everyone, makes pies and buffet foods for large parties. I must say he's pretty good and my tea is always ready when I come home because he works from home. I would love some kind of cake/food business but that's way in our future at the moment - I think I need to work on my caking to keep up with him level!
Tiddy what software is it that you have bought? Does it help you plan/price the cake or actually design it?
Bashini im waiting for sooooooooooo many deliveries to come! And I have no patience Your doing well if its in boxes...mine is literally everywhere, just keep telling myself that when my table comes (tomorrow) i will get organised! Although I did put the fridge in yesterday
The software is my new play thing :) I only got it yesterday and really should have read all the details beforehand as you have to buy extras to get the most out of it but its good fun and im sure it will come in handy for a few...dare I say....Bridezillas!
I did this to see how it worked. I absolutely cannot take credit for the cake and I apologise for not knowing whos it is but it is beautiful and non standard so thought i'd play and see if I could in any way recreate it in 3D! Dont think I did too bad considering it was my first play
What do you think?
I was planning on being able to send brides to be a 3D image of their ideas....am a bit worried haha!
Tiddylicious, wow so that's what it does! I make do with sketches lol.
That's really good! Very lifelike and makes buying a designed cake so enticing!
Yup! A 3D design tool and a terrible time waster .
I do love to draw/sketch but 3D! haha!
once you've designed it you can save and email and if anything needs changing you can just open up and click click away lol
