A little about her would help. What are/were her interests? What is her favorite color/flower? Does/did she knit, sew, quilt?

i just did a cake for a lady's 89th whose interests are crocheting, bingo and doing puzzles. i just placed all the fondant made items in a basket for the top tier and the bottom tier i placed edible images around the cake of her from a little girl on up to present time. it's in my photos.

I just did a whole Luau theme for my husband's grandmothers's 80th, and that was fun... it was in June and we had a barbque, you could do a thru the ages kinda thing with something from each era that she has seen, or a sock hop 50's kind of thing... Duff Goldman did a little old lady from Pascadena car with a gramma behind the wheel, hair in the wind top down... that was very cool... HTH

If you can find photos from her life's special moments and print them on edible paper and do a photo cake. icon_smile.gif

I've done this several times slightly different so it would work good for your needs w/changing the # to '90' and using her fav colors.

My other idea would be to make a small tiered cake that's very frilly or 'girlie' . I have several in my pix that could work for you.

I just did a 3-tier 80th because the grand-daughter ordering and I believed that tiered cakes shouldn't be saved for weddings. The top tier had her name and the other two names she is called (Mother and Granny). The middle tier had the names of her children. The bottom tier had the names of her grandchildren (all 26 of them).

The original plan called for the top to be the names of her children, middle was to be the grandchildren and the bottom was to be the names of her great grandchildren. But with 26 grandchildren, you can image how many greats there are!

Good luck and be sure to let us all know what you decide to do!

Here's something you might be interested in. It's a life quilt cake. I'm waiting on an excuse to make one for somebody.
I think you could even make it on a stacked cake as well, just put the squares around the sides. HTH K'ly
