On busy weekends that I know are coming, I plan ahead and bake everything and freeze it, well wrapped, with their name on it. Then the day I'm decorating I pull the cakes out to defrost while I'm making icing, and they go together pretty quick after that, but it didn't used to be very quick; I have gotten a lot faster at decorating, which I can say is a huge relief! You'll get faster with time, believe me.
